The certificate teaches the core principles and practices for employment as an entry-level CNC operator.

Students in this program will be introduced to modern practices which include Lean Manufacturing and Precision Measurement techniques, as well as the foundational principles of CNC Operations. Students will learn and perfect introductory skills in the programming and daily maintenance of CNC machines. Various types of automated equipment, such as Coordinate Measuring Machines are utilized so that students gain practical experience that will help them obtain gainful employment in industry.

For career advancement: Apply 8 credit hours toward a degree in Machine Tool Technology.

Advising Information

  • Classes will be offered A & B terms at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CAM) in Laurens.

  • Students are encouraged to take all classes as a cohort, 4 days per week, Monday to Thursday.

  • Completion of one of the following:

    1. College level English and math

    2. Completion of developmental/transitional courses (RDG 100, ENG 100, MAT 032) within 5 years

    3. Acceptable placement test scores (COMPASS – Reading 84, English 75, Math 32 or ASSET  - Reading 43, English 40, Math 38) within 5 years

  • While these courses are being taught through Continuing Education, these are curriculum, credit bearing courses.

  • Certificates are eligible for Lottery Tuition Assistance (LTA).  Completion of FAFSA is not required and student may sign FAFSA waiver.  The certificates are not PELL eligible.

  • Students who wish to continue for an Associate Degree in Mechatronics or Machine Tool Technology,  must take COMPASS prior to changing their major.

  • Students will have an opportunity to interview with HTI(hiring agency for ZF) with completion of other requirements.
