Students entering Piedmont Tech's nursing and health science programs face an extensive application process. We recognize that these program admissions requirements and policies may become confusing. Please contact us about any questions that you have. Prospective nursing and health sciences students also need to become familiar with our Health Resources Web page.

Special Admissions Requirements

Prospective students must fulfill special admissions requirements to be eligible for acceptance into Nursing and Health Science programs. Students are required to complete the following courses with a grade of "C" or higher: ENG 101, MAT 102 or MAT 120, PSY 201 and BIO 210; however, one must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher to be considered program eligible. (See Option 1 below for further information.)Students must complete one of three options to meet these requirements and become program-ready. Then, a program-ready application must be submitted to the Student Success Center for the clinical phase of the Nursing and Health Science Programs. Attempt policies, as well as other guidelines explained in the Health Science Resource Web page, apply.

The three options are as follows:

Option # 1 - Complete required program-ready course work.
  • Associate Degree Nursing, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care, and Practical Nursing students must complete ENG 101, MAT 102 or 120, PSY 201, and BIO 210 with a grade of "C" or better. Note that BIO 106 is a required prerequisite for BIO 210. Nursing students must also have CNA certification prior to final acceptance.
  • Cardiovascular Technology students must earn a 2.5 GPA in the following five courses: ENG 101, MAT 102, PSY 201, AHS 102, and BIO 210. Note that BIO 106 is a required prerequisite for BIO 210.
  • Medical Assisting and Surgical Technology students must complete ENG 101, MAT 152 (or exemption), PSY 201, and BIO 210 with a grade of "C" or better. Note that BIO 106 is a required prerequisite for BIO 210.
  • Pharmacy Technology students must complete ENG 101, MAT 102, AHS 102, and PHM 202 with a grade of "C" or better.
  • Veterinary Technology students must complete ENG 101, MAT 102, PSY 201, and BIO 102 with a grade of "C" or better.
  • Patient Care Technology and Massage Therapy students must exempt or satisfactorily complete RDG 100, ENG 100 and MAT 152.
  • Phlebotomy Technology students must exempt or satisfactorily complete RDG 100, ENG 100, and MAT 152.

Option # 2 - Have an earned BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university with a 2.5 GPA and completion of BIO 210 (if BIO 210 is required in the student's major).
  • Note that BIO 106 is a required prerequisite of BIO 210.
  • Nursing students must also have current CNA certification.

Option # 3 - Have an SAT score of 960 (V=480, M=480) or ACT 20 (V=20, M=23) and completion of BIO 210 (if BIO 210 is required in the student's major).
  • Note that BIO 106 is a required prerequisite of BIO 210.
  • Nursing students must also have current CNA certification.

Enrollment Checklist for Nursing & Health Science Students

This checklist applies students interested in completing the following degrees at Piedmont Tech: Associate Degree Nursing, Practical Nursing, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care, Patient Care Technician, Surgical Technology, Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy Technician, Pharmacy Assistant, and Veterinary Technician.

2. Apply for Financial Aid

You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) immediately to receive lottery tuition or federal financial assistance. Do not wait until classes start! Click here to learn about financial aid opportunities and policies.

3. Attend a Mandatory Information Session

All nursing and health science applicants must attend a mandatory Nursing/Health Science Information session before registration. To register:

  • Visit the Admissions Office on the Lex Walters Campus, Greenwood
  • Call the Admissions Office at (864) 941-8369
  • Visit any County Center

4. Complete the Placement Test

Schedule an appointment to take Piedmont Tech's placement test by calling our Admissions Office at (864) 941-8369 or by calling any County Center. Unless waived by college personnel, you will need to take the placement test. Visit our Testing Center for more information on test exemptions and sample test questions.

5. Submit Transcripts

Submit an official copy of your high school transcript or GED and any college transcripts.


6. Meet with an Enrollment Advisor

Contact a campus near you to meet with an enrollment advisor and plan your schedule of classes.

7. Register for Classes

Register for classes and receive a printed schedule and a statement for tuition and fees.


8. Obtain Your PTC Pathway ID Number

PTC Pathway allows you to use the Internet to access grades, course schedules, tuition balances, financial statements, and certain student services. At the time of enrollment, the college will assign you a random PTC ID (P#) that is used to log into your PTC Pathway account. Your date of birth (MMDDYY) will be your temporary password.


9. Purchase Textbooks

Purchase your books and supplies in person or online at the PTC Campus Shop. On selected dates, books are also available for purchase at the six County Centers.

Enrollment Checklist for Joint Health Science Program with Greenville Technical College

Piedmont Tech partners with Greenville Technical College to offer Joint Health Science Programs. Students take prerequisite Phase 1 coursework at Piedmont Tech and complete core curriculum Phase 2 coursework at Greenville Tech. These programs include: Dental Hygiene, Physical Therapist Assistant, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Occupational Therapy Assistant.

3. Read & Sign Joint Admissions Requirements Form

Joint Health Science Program applicants must read, sign and submit the Joint Admissions Procedures & Program Requirements Form. The form may be submitted as follows:

  • Visit the Admissions Office on the Lex Walters Campus, Greenwood
  • Visit any County Center
  • Mail to: Admissions Office, Piedmont Technical College, P.O. Box 1467, Greenwood, SC 29648
  • Fax to: (864) 941-8566

4. Complete the Placement Test

6. Attend a "Career Talk" at Greenville Tech

Attend a Career Talk orientation session at Greenville Technical College. It is recommended that the application do this prior to enrolling in classes at Piedmont Tech, or as early as possible during the first semester. Call Greenville Tech at (864) 250-8195 for Career Talk dates and times.

7. Meet with a Piedmont Tech Advisors
  • Contact a campus near you to meet with an enrollment advisor and plan your schedule of classes.
  • During your first semester, schedule an appointment with Lenette Thompson to discuss application procedures for Phase 2.
