FAFSACompleting the online FAFSA application is the first step to receive any financial assistance.  Computers are available in Piedmont's Financial Aid Office for completing the application. For the Fall 2009 Term - Summer 20010 Term, you will use the 2009-2010 FAFSA,  2008 Tax Return will be needed.

How to Apply

Print the following instructions to guide you through the application process:

  1. Before beginning this process, gather the required tax forms.  If you are a dependent  student, you will be required to have your parent's tax forms also.
  2. Now that you have the proper tax documentation, let’s begin.  FAFSA on the Web is located at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.  You may want to print the remaining portion of the directions to help you navigate the FAFSA on the Web.
  3. From the FAFSA Web site, double-click on “Fill Out A FAFSA.” 
  4. At this point you must decide if you need to complete a FAFSA or a renewal FAFSA.  Only students who completed a prior year FAFSA would complete the renewal FAFSA which requires a PIN.  Click Next.
  5. To electronically sign the FAFSA using your federal PIN, Select YES.  If you do not have a PIN, select NO. Click Next.
  6. Enter requested Personal Information. Click Next.
  7. You are now at the 2008-2009 FAFSA application. Provide requested information and click "NEXT page" to continue.
  8. The Department of Education will mail your Student Aid Report.  If you listed Piedmont Technical College as a school to receive your information, the Financial Aid Office will receive your file electronically.  If you have questions, contact your Financial Aid Officer.
    If you provide a valid Email address, the Department of Education will email you a link to retrieve your Student Aid Report within a few weeks.  If you do not provide an email address, you will be mailed a one-page acknowledgement form.  The colleges you listed will receive your file electronically.
  9. If you do not receive your Student Aid Report within 3 to 4 weeks of on-line application or if you want to check on the status, call the Department of Education at 1 800-433-3243.  You can call the federal processor seven days a week, from 8:00 a.m. through midnight Eastern Time to check on your FAFSA.
  10. Monitor your award status through your account at http://pathways.ptc.edu/cp/home/loginf
