Foundation Highlights
Scholarships
The Foundation assists students through various scholarship opportunities. The recipients of these scholarships represent a cross-section of talented individuals from Piedmont Technical College's academic programs. These scholarships help to retain the best and brightest talent for our local work force and provide educational opportunities to those who otherwise may not have been able to attend college.
PTC Golf Classic
A team of four representing Avery Dennison captured the 15th Industry Cup at the 17th annual Piedmont Technical College Foundation Golf Classic for the second year in a row. Fran Wiley, executive director of the Piedmont Technical College Foundation and tournament coordinator, center, presented the trophy to the winning foursome. Beating out over 17 other teams, the winners were, from left to right, Travis Brown, Len Brissie, Wiley, Mark Raines and Rick Brinker. The PTC Foundation Golf Classic, held annually in April, raises money for student scholarships.
Student-Built Home
In 2008, Piedmont Tech students completed a building project in Greenwood. Building construction technology students gained real-life work experience in all aspects of construction and students in the HVAC technology program installed the heating and cooling units.
The Foundation secured land, provided funding and worked with realtors to sell the completed home. Local businesses and contractors also donated materials, offered discounts and provided extra labor when needed. Profits will fund scholarships for BCT students.
Cobra Projects I & II
In fall 2006, Piedmont Tech's top automotive technology students had their first chance to work elbow-to-elbow with instructors to build a 1965 Cobra Replica. The Foundation and various suppliers provided funding and equipment that made this award-winning project possible. Since completion, the Cobra has been transported to career fairs and auto shows throughout South Carolina and Georgia and is currently the prize in a drawing to be held in late December.
The second project car is also a 1965 Cobra Replica, but with its own personality. The ’79 Lamborghini-red version has twin roll bars, a different rear-end and a different composition on the engine. Completed in the fall of 2009, the newest Cobra will be on display at career fairs and auto shows soon. |
