2007-2008 Foundation Highlights
Scholarships
The Foundation assisted more than 200 students through various scholarship opportunities. The recipients of these scholarships represent a cross-section of talented individuals from Piedmont Technical College's academic programs. These scholarships help to retain the best and brightest talent for our local work force and provide educational opportunities to those who otherwise may not have been able to attend college.
PTC Golf Classic
The proceeds from the Foundation's annual PTC Golf Classic are used to support student scholarships. This past April, 200 golfers can together for a great cause and enjoyed a beautiful day of galf and a delightful BBQ lunch on the grounds of The Patriot at Grand Harbor. The Foundation is grateful to The Patriot at Grand Harbor for hosting the event for the first time this year and looks forward to the event at The Patriot over the next four years.
Student-Built Home
With initial funding from the Foundation, the college's Building Construction Technology (BCT) students designed, planned, and constructed a house on Wincey Road in Greenwood. This opportunity afforded these students with "hands-on" educational knowledge in construction a house from beginning to end. Upon completion of the project, the Foundation sold the house and set aside two-thirds of the proceeds for the BCT department to purchase equipment for their program and to award scholarships to deserving BCT students.
Cobra Project
The Foundation partnered with the college's Automotive Technology department to build a 1965 Cobra replica. This beautiful machine has won many awards and turned many heads at various community festivals and events. The Automotive Technology department can also boast increased enrollment as a direct result of the Cobra. |
