weldinginlaurens1009Piedmont Technical College and Laurens District 55 have formed a partnership to offer the PTC welding program at night beginning in the spring.

The program will offer Gas & Arc Welding, Arc Welding II and Print Reading beginning at 5:15 p.m. each evening Monday through Thursday. Classes will be taught at Laurens 55 High School.

The program is limited to 10 students due to the number of arc welding stations available. The classes are being offered to Laurens residents as an alternative to driving to the Greenwood campus.

“These classes are the same beginning courses taught in Greenwood,” said Jim Fleming, PTC welding program coordinator/instructor. “We want to provide options for those who are interested in enrolling in the welding program, but are unable to make the drive.”

Fleming said the plan is to continue to expand the program and offer more courses in Laurens.

“Providing students with the right opportunities to be successful in the work force is at the heart of our mission at Piedmont Technical College,” said Dr. Ray Brooks, president of PTC. “We are thrilled about working with District 55 to offer students access to training in this highly sought-after profession.”
