Judy Daulton has been in the business department of Piedmont Technical College for nearly 24 years. She teaches students from many different hometowns and backgrounds. When she started teaching accounting, she knew she would have students from the seven-county area like Greenwood and Newberry and even farther away like Columbia and Greenville. She never imagined she would have students from Ireland and the Philippines.
The Piedmont Technical College chapter of Phi Beta Lambda recently hosted guest speaker Thomas Payne, director of college and university relations with Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc.
Piedmont Technical College will sponsor a College Transfer Fair Tuesday, March 12 in room 155B on the Lex Walters Campus. More than 30 colleges and universities will be in attendance to give students information on special bridge programs and transfer pathways. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Students, faculty and staff at Piedmont Technical College recently participated in an Open Mic Poetry Jam in celebration of Black History Month. Presenters included guest poet Kimbi “The Goddess” of Unifyed Sol Poets.
Evelyn Beck has been named Piedmont Technical College’s dean of Arts and Sciences. Beck replaces Donna Foster who was named associate vice president of institutional assessment and compliance in August.
As part of its continuing efforts to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics, the engineering technology program and Tau Alpha Pi, the engineering technology honor society at Piedmont Technical College, recently celebrated National Engineers Week by inviting high school students to learn more about the career.
Each year, Piedmont Technical College chooses some of its best and brightest to serve as Presidential Ambassadors. These students represent the college at campus functions, provide tours and speak about their experiences to potential students.
February is Financial Aid Awareness Month, and Piedmont Technical College will be hosting a series of events designed to help college bound students understand the options that are available to them to make college more affordable.
“A great amount of financial aid is available each year. Students just need to apply,” said Missy Perry, financial aid director at Piedmont Technical College.
Piedmont Technical College students who had outstanding academic accomplishments during the 2012 fall semester have earned inclusion on the President’s List. To be named to the list, students must be full time and earn a term GPA of 4.00. Students will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the college president.
Piedmont Technical College’s implementation of Lean in Higher Education has been awarded the prestigious 2013 Bellwether Award, which recognizes outstanding and innovative programs in community college education. The winners were announced earlier today at the Community College Futures Assembly (CCFA) annual meeting in Orlando.
