Made in the USA is making a comeback and as a result manufacturing is booming in South Carolina. In partnership with the SC Technical College System, Piedmont Technical College is launching the South Carolina Manufacturing Certification (SCMC) to grow the skilled workforce in its region.
Piedmont Technical College’s massage therapy program will be offering its annual massage clinic as part of the training for its students beginning January 16. The clinic will be open to the public Monday-Thursday from 12-3:45 p.m. at the PTC annex building on North Emerald Road.
A one-hour Swedish, deep tissue, neuromuscular or prenatal massage will be $10 for students and staff of PTC and $20 for the general public.
Piedmont Technical College was recently chosen to join the Plus 50 Encore Completion Program, a national effort to train 10,000 baby boomers for new jobs in health care, education and social services. The program is sponsored by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).
Piedmont Technical College and the University of South Carolina Upstate recently signed an articulation agreement that will create a bridge program for students who would like to begin their studies at PTC, and then transfer to USC Upstate.
The James Medford Family Event Center at Piedmont Technical College welcomed more than 275 Piedmont Technical College graduates for commencement ceremonies to celebrate their accomplishments.
Dr. Ray Brooks, president, welcomed graduates, family and guests to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduates.
Piedmont Technical College will be holding fall commencement exercises on December 12.
Commencement exercises will begin at 5 p.m. in the James Medford Family Event Center at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood. Due to limited seating, tickets will be required for all guests attending the graduation ceremony. Each ticketholder, including children, will be entitled to one seat.
Need to do some early holiday shopping? Why not purchase some creative and handmade crafts from local students. Piedmont Technical College pottery students will host their annual Christmas Show and Sale. The exhibit and sale will feature work designed and made by students enrolled in the Professional Clay certificate program at the college’s Center for Creative Economies.
Piedmont Technical College will once again be offering Instant Admission Days this fall to make enrolling in college easy.
Instant Admission Day will be Thursday, November 21 for spring registration. A second Instant Admission Day will be January 2. Admissions and financial aid counselors will be on hand to help students through the entire enrollment process in just one day.
“We wanted to provide students with a one-stop option to enroll in classes,” said Tanisha Latimer, dean of enrollment management.
Recent graduates of four of Piedmont Technical College’s health science programs have achieved the elusive mark of perfection.
Students who graduate from the health science programs are required to take national certification exams to enter their fields. Over the past year, students at Piedmont Tech have excelled. The respiratory care program, pharmacy technology program and the radiologic technology program all earned a 100 percent pass rate for the most recent class of graduates. The surgical technology program had a 95 percent pass rate.
Officials at PTC are looking forward to a good turnout for the spring term as the VIP registration opens.
Registration for the spring term began November 1and runs through November 26. Students who register during this period become “VIPs” and receive their first choice of classes and a $25 registration fee waiver.
