PTC Recognized for Lean Implementation for Second Year

Piedmont Technical College’s work to implement the Lean methodology in a community college setting has won the College a second national recognition.

PTC has been selected as a finalist for a prestigious 2013 Bellwether Award, which recognizes outstanding, innovative programs and practices that are successfully leading community colleges into the future.

Piedmont Technical College to Hold Commencement December 13

Piedmont Technical College will be holding fall commencement exercises on December 13. 

Commencement exercises will begin at 3 p.m. in the Multipurpose Building at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood. Due to limited seating, tickets will be required for all guests attending the graduation ceremony. Each ticketholder, including children, will be entitled to one seat.

In recognition of their excellence and the stories they have told about their journeys in higher education, three graduating students will be speaking at the commencement ceremony.

Piedmont Tech Instant Admissions Day Welcomes Students for Spring

Piedmont Technical College offered its fourth Instant Admissions Day recently. Admissions and financial aid counselors were on hand to help students through the entire enrollment process in just one day.

“We wanted to provide students with a one-stop option to enroll in classes,” said Tanisha Latimer, dean of enrollment management.

The Piedmont Education & Business Alliance recently hosted its tenth annual Guidance Standards and Career Development Workshop at Piedmont Technical College. The event drew more than 100 school counselors and career development professionals from 10 school districts in Abbeville, Clinton, Edgefield, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Newberry, Ninety Six, Saluda and Ware Shoals.

Piedmont Technical College students who had outstanding academic accomplishments during the 2012 summer term have earned inclusion on the President’s List. To be named to the list, students must be full time and earn a term GPA of 4.00. Students will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the college president.

In order to better meet the needs of a growing student body, Piedmont Technical College has created a College Preparatory division.

“At PTC, student success has always been our primary concern,” said Lisa Martin, associate dean. “As our enrollment continues to grow at PTC, we have to look at new ways to deliver instruction to a very diverse population.”

The Piedmont Technical College Area Commission recently hosted a barbecue dinner at Bermuda’s at The Links at Stoney Point, for local, state and federal legislators to raise awareness of PTC’s vital role in the work force development of South Carolina’s Lakelands region.

The ceremony, which was held in the college’s James C. Self Conference Center, attracted students, faculty, staff, friends and family members.

Sandy Warner, department head for engineering technology at Piedmont Technical College, has been nominated for the 2013 Governor’s Professor of the Year Award.
