The Student Support Services program is designed to help students stay in college, graduate, and / or transfer to four year colleges or universities. Some students enter college with skills that need to be developed for success in their curriculum. Student Support Services provides a coordinated cluster of support services that will help students achieve their full potential.

Services Offered:

  • Counseling
    We provide personal, academic and career counseling to help you set and meet your goals.
  • College Skills
    Through seminars or classes, individually or in groups, we give you assistance with study skills that are necessary for college success and the quality of daily life.
  • Transfer Information
    We offer assistance with completing the college and financial aid application processes, a resource library of four-year college information, tours of various college campuses, and workshops designed to prepare you for transfer to the four-year college of your choice. fIn the Spring term we also host a College Fair, attended by over 20 institutions from around the Carolinas.
  • Cultural Activities and Trips
    Some of the previous trips include cultural events at the Peace Center in Greenville, the Abbeville Opera House, the Greenwood Community Theatre and Lander University. Regular Etiquette are held at local restaurants.
  • Leadership Retreat
    Between 20 and 40 students attend this weekend retreat at Camp Fellowship on Lake Greenwood.  Students participate in a variety of activities designed to develop personal skills, to build trust, team-working, abilities and leadership qualities.
  • Tuesday Topics
    Tuesday Topics are discussion/workshop seminars sponsored by the Student Support Services.  Topics are selected that have the ability to improve the quality of college or daily life.  Recent topics have included Test Anxiety, Study Skills and Critical Thinking.  Check the PTC Calendar for dates, times and locations. 
  • Tutoring
    Through special arrangement with the college's Tutoring Center, you may be able to receive unlimited hours of free tutoring for any of your classes.
  • Equipment
    Participants are able to check out laptop computers, borrow textbooks when available and have access to computers, fax machines and printer/copier.

The Costs

All services offered to Student Support Services participants are free.

Determining Eligibility

There are some specific eligibility requirements to qualify for the Student Support Services program.  To determine if you are eligible, please complete and hand in an application form.  These are available in our office in the Student Success Center (Room 101A, see campus map), and will soon be available on this website.
