General Policies

  1. Every student is entitled to ONE FREE HOUR OF TUTORING PER WEEK.
  2. ALL tutoring sessions MUST be arranged through the Tutoring Coordinator except under the following condition: 
  3. There are other ways to receive additional help. These ways include:
    A student may join another session in the same course already set up. The consent by both tutor and student is necessary to carry out this option.

        --- With some of the more technical courses, it may be necessary to contact a specific instructor, 
              coordinator, department head, or peer advisor assigned to a specific curriculum.

        --- Coordinators and instructors in the developmental lab areas often schedule open-lab hours for
             drop-in assistance in reading, study habits, writing, and math skills. In addition, computerized
             tutorials in some areas are available in the Teaching and Learning Center. The library also has
             videotapes for some courses. 

        --- Student Support Services, a federal grant program on campus, as part of a comprehensive
              package of services, contracts with The Tutoring Center to provide further tutoring to those who
              qualify and are accepted into the program. Student Support Services offices are located in the
              Administrative building.
  4. Students can only get 1 free hour of tutoring per week. Student Support Services students may receive an additional 3 hrs per week.
  5. If a student is absent without notice from a requested and agreed upon session, the student will be dropped from the tutoring schedule until he/she meets with the Tutoring Coordinator to explain the absence or pay a penalty fee. 

 

Online Tutoring Procedures

  1. Policies for tutoring online are the same as for on-site tutoring

  2. Students using online tutoring must have access to broadband Internet access such as DSL or Cable Modem service and your computer must have a sound card with a microphone. All voice and shared whiteboard or computer screens are managed via the Internet and your computer. The program will ask you to download a Java program the first time you connect. You must allow the download for the program to work. (A Logitech microphone is suggested. A Web cam will also provide video as an option but is not required.)

  3. You need to complete a request for tutoring form either in person by dropping by the Tutoring Center in 178K of the Lex Walters Greenwood Campus, by phone at (864) 941-8435 or online using the online form.

  4. You should indicate you are requesting online tutoring.

  5. The tutoring center will give you the email address of the online tutor. You and the tutor will work out a time convenient for you both for tutoring and the tutor will email you the schedule you agree upon. No more than 2 students plus the tutor can be in the same session online.
