Piedmont Tech Implements Call Me MISTER Program

Through a new program at Piedmont Technical College called Call Me MISTER, the college is taking action to address a problem of national proportions.

“The Call Me MISTER program is an initiative to promote careers in education for African American males,” said Steve Coleman, director of Project Genesis. “There is a large gap in the number of African American men in the classroom.”

   Piedmont Technical College students who had outstanding academic accomplishments during the 2013 spring semester have earned inclusion on the President’s List. To be named to the list, students must be full-time and earn term GPAs of 4.0. Students will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the college president.

Mechatronics Technology Degree Offered in Newberry

Piedmont Technical College has long prepared technicians to work in the continually advancing field of industrial technology. Now, the college is expanding its degree offerings in Newberry with the addition of the Mechatronics Technology associate degree.

The new degree program will begin in the fall of 2014 as part of the Phase II construction at the new Newberry County Campus. Also included will be the addition of an auditorium and a health science program.

Phi Theta Kappa Inducts New Members

New members were recently inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at Piedmont Technical College. Phi Theta Kappa was established in 1918 to honor two-year college students and boasts more than 1,200 chapters today. The Carolinas region includes 75 active chapters in the two-state area. Piedmont Tech’s Omega Chi chapter became the first among South Carolina’s technical colleges in 1974.

Piedmont Tech’s Newberry County Campus Open for Tours

The Piedmont Technical College Newberry County Campus is opening its doors this summer for groups who want to take a tour of the facility.

Tours will be conducted for two weeks in June and two weeks in July to allow the community to visit the campus and hear about some of the offerings for traditional and the non-traditional students who may be looking at a career change or taking courses to enhance their current job skills.
