Requirements:

Work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment.

The person in this position will:

1. Inspect and perform preventive servicing checks on vehicles following the prescribed fluid levels, lubrication, fueling, and tire servicing policies, rules, and regulations. Report major preventive servicing problems to Shop Foreman or Assistant Foreman immediately.

2. As directed, diagnose and repair routine maintenance failure problems and immediately report major problems to Shop Foreman or Assistant Foreman.

3. As directed, respond to service calls to determine the severity of the problem and make required repairs. In support of repair technician, make repairs to vehicle as directed by the supervisor.

4. Maintain assigned service vehicle and associated inventory. Maintain accurate records in the use of materials and parts according to state guidelines. Keep parts clean and organized, and equipment clean, organized, and in good operating condition.

5. Perform job in compliance with Weather, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures using the available Personal Protection Equipment as required.

6. Provide other services in support of the school bus maintenance shop or the Office of Transportation mission as instructed by the Foreman or Assistant Foreman.

Job Description:

One (1) year of mechanical experience in automotive or related repair and servicing; or any combination of training and experience that would enable an applicant to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities. Required to lift objects weighing 50 pounds and to move objects weighing 125 pounds 30 feet. Must be able to operate power, hydraulic and electronic equipment. Must possess or acquire within 120 calendar days a valid Class A CDL with Tank Vehicle, Passenger and Air Brake endorsements, Tanker Operation certification, and criminal background check.

Successful candidates will be extended an offer of conditional probationary employment, at which time they will be required to submit to and pass a drug screening for illegal drugs and must pass the SDE/USDOT medical exam.

This position is located in the Division of Innovation and Support, Office of Transportation.

Schedule:
Monday through Friday 6:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Some overtime may be required.
