A Career in HVAC Technology

One of the fastest-growing service occupations, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning has seen major changes in recent years as the result of a national emphasis on fuel conservation and environmental concerns.

Every private residence, business, industry and agency needs the skill of technicians trained in the installation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating systems. And because these systems are increasing in complexity, skilled technicians will be in higher demand in the future to keep them running at maximum capacity.

In Piedmont Tech's HVAC program, practical training in a well-equipped shop and outside installation of service projects will give you the on-the-job experience you'll need to get started in the HVAC industry after graduation.

Program Information

Students in the associate degree program are trained to diagnose and repair malfunctions; size, fabricate and install air duct systems; and estimate cooling and heating loads for selection of the most efficient systems for a given building. Practical training in a state-of-the-art training facility and outside installation of service projects gives students on-the-job experience before they graduate. EPA 608 technician certification is taught, and the test is offered to all curriculum students.

In addition to the associate degree, the college offers several certificates in key areas such as heating fundamentals, refrigeration and HVACR installation. These programs help students gain essential skills in order to get to work quickly in the HVAC field.

To ensure students complete these programs with the best foundation, faculty are administering HVAC Excellence tests upon the completion of key courses to verify student skill levels and work readiness.
