Wages/Salary: $36,840.00 - $68,160.00 Annually

Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in engineering and two (2) years of entry-level engineering work
experience; or a bachelor's degree in engineering technology and four (4) years of entry-level engineering work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with StateHuman Resources Regulations.A valid motor vehicle operator's license is also required.

Job Description:

Under general supervision of Resident Maintenance Engineer. Performs duties as an Assistant Resident Engineer in county maintenance office. Performs engineering duties in right of way/encroachment management on state maintained roadways to ensure efficient use of resources and timely approval of permits. Serves as Adopt A highway, Night time and On-Call Coordinator for Greenville County. Required to perform duties requiring judgment on application of standards, policies and procedures. Reviews damage claims and makes recommendation for payment or denial. Supervises contracts engineer to ensure that contractors are adhering to state guidelines. Responsible for checking fatality reports on a monthly basis in accordance with SCDOT regulations. Assists with the inspection of all maintenance units to insure adherence to all environmental codes, regulations and laws governed by South Carolina Department of Environmental Control and the United States
Environmental Protection Agency. Required to work during emergency situations to include snow and ice removal, chemical and oil spills, road base and bridge deterioration. Must be under 24 hour alert until the roads are rendered safe for the traveling public. Required to provide expert witness testimony in court cases in defense of the SCDOT. Occasionally subpoenaed as expert witness in civil lawsuits not involving SCDOT. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
