A 10th grade education; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. A valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License. (NOTE): This position requires a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of placement in the position. However, applicants without a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License are available.
Trains in the operation of heavier equipment including ditching machine. Trains to operate front-end loader in the loading of materials needed for maintenance operations, including earth materials, clay, sand and aggregate. Trains to operate 5 yard standard dump truck, and flatbed trucks for hauling materials including asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe construction materials and debris. Performs duties using manual labor, in maintenance tasks as clearing of right-of-ways, cleaning drainage ditches, repairing shoulders, patching potholes, making base repairs, repairing bridges, installing driveways and laying sideline/cross line pipe. Operates chain saw in the removal of trees from right-of-way. Trains to operate standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment as outlined in equipment specifications. Flags traffic using flag and/or sign board to direct traffic safely around and by workers and equipment during roadway maintenance repairs. Performs miscellaneous related duties as required.
