Veterninary Technician Externships

Upstate Vet offers an externship program for veterinary and veterinary technician students enrolled in a certified institution to help their clinical training and expand their level of experience. We practice high-quality medicine using state-of-the-art technology at one of the largest veterinary hospitals in South Carolina. Externships are available in the following departments: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, and Neurology. We try to limit one extern at a time per department to allow maximum benefit to the student. Since specialty medicine is vastly different from general practice, we prefer students to have some experience in veterinary medicine prior to externship. There is flexibility with the amount of time per department (if more than one department will be rotated through), but your preferred time cannot be guaranteed due to scheduling. There are also some weeks out of the year some departments won’t be available due to conferences (ACVIM, VCS) and prior commitments. All costs and arrangements for travel, accommodations, and food are the student’s responsibility. Proof of liability insurance and health insurance is required prior to your start date.
