Foundation Scholarships

Through the generosity of donors, the Piedmont Technical College Foundation offers a variety of scholarships. Many scholarships are available to current students after they have completed 12 credit hours in their program major at Piedmont Technical College and have earned at least a 2.5 GPA (Grade Point Average).

A few scholarships are available to high school seniors. Most scholarships are based on academic achievement and financial need. More specific criteria are listed under each scholarship. Scholarship applications are available during January, May and September.

Open Application Scholarship Dates:

Fall 2024: August 26-September 9 - Awarded funds post to Spring 2025 accounts
Spring 2025: January 16-30 - Awarded funds post to Summer 2025 accounts
Summer 2025: May 20-June 3 - Awarded funds post to Fall 2025 accounts

To qualify:

  • You must have completed 12 PTC hours in your major.
  • You must have a Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • You must have an instructor who will complete an online recommendation.
  • You cannot have received a Foundation scholarship within the past 12 months.

Scholarships Available through Piedmont Technical College

A. J. Welch Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student from Greenwood, Laurens or Abbeville County majoring in Criminal Justice.  Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

Abbeville First Bank Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to Abbeville County residents including graduating seniors that are majoring in Building Construction Technology or the Business Program. A current Greenwood County resident may be selected if no Abbeville County resident meets the criteria.

Agape Senior OTA Scholarship

Agape Senior has established a scholarship to assist a student majoring in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Criteria includes academic achievement and financial need. Preference is given to Agape Senior employees.

Alfred and Miriam Adams Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a Saluda County resident. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

Allred Leadership Endowed Scholarships

Scholarships are available to high school seniors. Selection is based on academic achievement, financial need and leadership.

Annie Lee Swygert Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a South Carolina resident based on academic achievement and financial need.

Automotive Technology Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student majoring in the Automotive Technology program. Selection is based on academic achievement (3.0+ grade point average) and financial need. 

Bailey Foundation Endowed Scholarships

Scholarships are available to Laurens County students majoring in business technology or computer technology. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

Bil Heath Rad Tech Scholarship

This scholarship is restricted to a student in their senior year of the Rad Tech program (4th or 5th semester) with a Rad Tech specific GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Preference is given to a single custodial parent first. Second preference is an adult student returning due to career change. 

Briana J. Carruth Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students in the Criminal Justice program. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need. The scholarship was given by family and friends in memory of a former Criminal Justice graduate, Briana J. Carruth.

Building Construction Technology Endowed Scholarships

This scholarship is available to Building Construction Technology majors based on academic achievement and financial need.

C. Y. Thomason Memorial Endowed Scholarship

In 2005, the Thomason family and the trustees of the C.Y. Thomason Foundation established a memorial scholarship to honor Mr. C.Y. Thomason for over 45 years of mentoring young people in the building construction trades. In 2022, the family endowed the scholarship in memory of the late C.Y. Thomason, Sr.  The C.Y. Thomason, Sr., Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a Building Construction Technology student demonstrating academic achievement and financial need.

Carl Brock VR Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a full-time Human Services major with financial need. Additional criteria includes: residency in Greenwood, Abbeville, McCormick or Saluda counties. Priority is given to VR clients who have successfully completed the South Carolina Manufacturing Certification (SCMC).

Casandra Cae Laster Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is restricted to a student enrolled in the Commercial Arts Associate Degree or the Commercial Arts Certificate program. Recommendation is limited to program instructors. Student’s grade point average must be a 3.0 or higher and demonstrating community/extracurricular involvement as well as participation in the PTC Camera Arts Club.

Charles Baumeister Memorial Endowed Scholarship

A scholarship has been established in memory of Charles Baumeister, a long-time faculty member of the college who also served as dean of the Business and Industrial Divisions and vice president for Educational Affairs. This scholarship is open to any full-time or part-time student with a 3.0 GPA.

Computer Consultants & Merchants, Inc. PTC Golf Classic Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student in the Welding program. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

Countybank Foundation Scholarship

The Countybank Foundation, representing Greenwood Capital Associates, LLC and Countybank, provides scholarships that are available to second semester students from Greenwood County with a minimum 3.0 GPA who are enrolled in one of the following programs: AAS degree in Administrative Office Technology or AOT with Accounting Concentration; AAS degree in Business Administration or Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting, Management, Office Management or Lander University Business Transfer; or AAS degree in Computer Technology for concentrations in Programming, Network or Cybersecurity. Selection is made on the basis of scholastic record, financial need and faculty recommendations.

David Sherer Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to an Automotive Technology student with a GPA of 2.5 or higher who has financial need.

Derrick Scholars Scholarship

Scholarships named for former Congressman Butler Derrick are available to students who are completing their first year of study in an associate degree program. The recipients must have 3.0 GPA and be in good standing in their programs of study.

Doris Suber Family Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor the memories of Bill Suber, Mike Suber, and Doris Suber. This scholarship is available to students interested in studying Early Childhood Development.

Dr. Lorraine Angelino Scholarship

This scholarship is available to any PTC student pursuing a degree in Computer Technology, including all concentrations. Additional criteria include academic achievement and financial need.

Dr. Sandra Calliham McMullen Scholarship

This scholarship is available to any senior graduating from McCormick High School, Ninety Six High School, or Saluda High School who is pursuing a degree in (1) education or (2) health care field that shows a financial need, academic achievement and motivation to learn. If a high school student does not apply, then the scholarship may be awarded to a current student that graduated from McCormick High School or Saluda High School.

Ernest W. Prewett Alumni Association Scholarships

The Piedmont Technical College Alumni Association has established a scholarship program to assist deserving students. These scholarships are based on academic achievement and need. In 2000, the Alumni Association Board renamed the scholarship to the Ernest W. Prewett Alumni Association and endowed it to recognize the late Mr. Prewett for his many years of work with the Alumni Association Board of Directors.

First Citizens Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students who live in one of the following counties - Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick and Saluda. It is based on academic and financial need. 

Foundation Partners Group Scholarship

This scholarship is for a student in the Funeral Services Program. The student must be a full-time student with 12 hours credit and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and maintain that 3.0 GPA throughout the semester being funded. This scholarship may be renewable. 

Fran K. Wiley Family Endowed Scholarship

A scholarship has been established in honor of Fran K. Wiley, Associate Vice President for Development at the college. She has worked with the Foundation for over 30 years. This scholarship is open to any full-time or part-time student with a 2.50 GPA.

Frank Wardlaw Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student majoring in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Technology.  Preference given to a student from Troy or McCormick County. Second preference given to an adult student returning due to a career change.

G. B. Elledge Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students enrolled in the Welding program. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

Game Changer Scholarship

The scholarship is for a senior athlete at any Lakelands high school who is in good standing with the school. Student should be an active member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes Huddle and demonstrate leadership skills through involvement in extra-curricular activities. A recommendation is required from coach or guidance counselor. This scholarship may be renewed additional semesters if student is full-time and achieving academically.

Gavin Lloyd Truelove Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student in the Radiologic Technology program, who exhibits leadership potential, good moral character, and a caring personality. Preference among equally qualified candidates is given to greatest financial need. Candidate must also be in good standing as determined by the college. This scholarship was established in memory of Radiologic Technology Student Gavin L. Truelove. Established in 2022 by Monty Franklin Kitchens PA-C MS, BSFR MS, and Radiologist Tammy Edwards Kitchens MD.

Gavin Truelove Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a Radiologic Technology student. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need. The scholarship was given by Newberry County Memorial Hospital, Diagnostic Imaging and PRISMA Health Radiology Group - Midlands & Upstate, in memory of a former Radiologic Tech student, Gavin Truelove. 

Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Community Scholarship

This scholarship is restricted to a resident of Greenwood County that is registered as a full-time student.  Must be in good academic standing as determined by the college and active in community service and willing to attend/volunteer at a Chamber Event.

Greenwood Corvette Club Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student majoring in the Automotive Technology program. Selection is based on financial need.

Greenwood Rotary Club Scholarship

The Greenwood Rotary Club has established a scholarship to assist any Piedmont Technical College engineering technology or industrial technology student in an associate degree program. The scholarship is available to Greenwood County residents.

Grey Hamlett Welding Scholarship

The scholarship was given by family and friends in memory of a former Welding graduate, Grey Hamlett. The scholarship is available to a student in the Welding program. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

Gwen and Gene Hancock Memorial Respiratory Care Scholarship

The Gwen and Gene Hancock Memorial Scholarship is available to majors in the Respiratory Care program in the seven county service region. The scholarship is based on academic achievement, leadership ability, and financial need.

H. Kelley Jones Scholarship

The H. Kelley Jones Scholarship was established by the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians.  This scholarship is available to a student enrolled in the Veterinary Technician program approved by the AVMAs.

Henry Blohm Leadership Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student who has exhibited academic achievement, leadership abilities and financial need.

Honeycutt Scholarship

This scholarship is available to an Edgefield County student based on financial need and academic achievement.

Human Services Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student that is in the Human Services program.

Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program honors excellence by supporting outstanding community college students with financial need as they transfer to and complete their bachelor's degrees at the nation’s top four-year colleges and universities. Jeanne C. Florence Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a Student Support Services participant and is based on financial need, academic achievement and recommendation by Student Services director and staff.

John Heydel Cardiovascular Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student in the Cardiovascular program that demonstrate leadership potential, good moral character, technical skills ability and have a caring personality.

John W. Drummond Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available and is based on academic achievement, financial need and leadership ability.

Judy Daulton Accounting Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student that is seeking a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting.

L. Ruple Harley, Sr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a Funeral Services major with academic achievement, leadership abilities, and financial need.

La Puerta De Esperanza Scholarship

This scholarship is for a student who does not qualify for state or federal tuition aid. Additional criteria includes financial need, academic achievement and a student who has leadership and community interest.

"Lady Bug" Memorial Scholarship

Sylvia and Doug MacFarlane have established a scholarship to remember their beloved dog named Lady Bug who served as the Vet Tech Mascot. This scholarship is available to a student majoring in the Veterinary Technology program. The recipient must be a third semester student and an active participant in the Veterinary Tech Club.

Lakelands Home Builders Association Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a Building Construction Technology student exhibiting academic achievement and financial need.

Laurens County Chamber Cecil Davenport Memorial Scholarships

Scholarships are available to Laurens County residents. 

Laurens County Water and Sewer Commission PTC Golf Classic Scholarships

This scholarship is generated through a fund-raising golf tournament held each year and is available to Laurens County residents.

Lena Wood Warren Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a practical nursing or associate degree nursing student who has completed at least one semester in the Nursing program. The recipient has a 3.0 GPA or above, has an outstanding clinical performance as determined by clinical instructor, shows financial need and demonstrates leadership abilities.

Lonza Endowed Scholarship

Selection for this scholarship is based on academic achievement and financial need.

Louise Rambo Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Louise Rambo. This scholarship is available to a practical or associate degree nursing student based on academic achievement and financial need.

Loutrelle Self Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student in the Administrative Office Technology program. Selection is based on academic achievement, financial need and leadership ability.

Lucille Brooks Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Lucille Brooks. This scholarship is available to a single parent showing financial need and academic achievement.

Lula M. Smith Healthcare Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a full-time student enrolled in a Healthcare curriculum. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

Manning Family Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student that meets one of the following: is a first time, first generation student; first generation student returning to college after 5 years out of school/college; or first generation student returning to college after a layoff.

Martha B. Williams Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student demonstrating leadership ability, attributing character and good life skills and is based on financial need and academic achievement.

Mary Jo Groomes Brighter Futures Scholarship

This scholarship is the Piedmont Technical College Scholarship Committee’s “Choice Award” and is available to any Piedmont Technical College student.

Medford Family Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student majoring in Nursing, Industrial Technology, Graphic Arts, Business, Massage Therapy or Automotive Technology. The recipient must exhibit leadership abilities, academic achievement and financial need.

MJA Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to an Edgefield County student and is based on financial need and academic achievement.

Mr. "B" Automotive Technician Endowed Scholarship

The scholarship is available to a second-year student in the Automotive Technology program. Selection is based on academic achievement.

Nancy Taylor Hall Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a Health Science major based on academic achievement with a 3.0 grade point average and financial need.

Newberry County Memorial Hospital Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students in the Nursing curriculum or one of the following Health Science programs: Human Services, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care or Surgical Technology, with a minimum 2.5 program GPA. Selection is based on financial need and leadership ability. Student must be in good standing with the college.

Newberry Electric Cooperative Scholarships

Newberry Electric Cooperative awards scholarships to Newberry Electric Cooperative members. Open to students in any curriculum, the scholarship is based on academic achievement and financial need.

Nora Wells Cooner Scholarship

This scholarship is available preferably to a single parent that is a full-time student with a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average and demonstrates financial need.  May be awarded to a student due to a career change because of a layoff if a single parent does meet criteria.

Olly and Ross Garrison Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a returning adult student who is changing careers. Criteria include 3.0 GPA and offer an opportunity for renewal with satisfactory progress maintained.

Paul DeLoache Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a resident of Saluda County. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

People That Care Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a Funeral Services major with academic achievement, leadership abilities and financial need.

PTC 50th Anniversary Scholarship

This scholarship was established in celebration of Piedmont Technical College's 50th anniversary. This scholarship is available to any student with a 3.0 GPA who has completed at least 50% of their intended major's required hours.

PTC Foundation Board Scholarships

The Piedmont Technical College Foundation awards scholarships to an outstanding high school graduate from each of the college's supporting counties. Recipients of Foundation Scholarships are selected on the basis of academic achievement while in high school. This scholarship may be renewable for a second year.

PTC Golf Classic Endowed Scholarship

These scholarships are generated through a fundraising golf tournament held each spring. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

RMBE Lipford Endowed Scholarship

The RMBE Lipford Endowed Scholarship (pronounced "Rimbee") was created by Elnita Lipford Williams, maternal granddaughter of Rogers and Rev. Mary A. Lipford and the daughter of Barbara Jean Lipford, in their memory. This scholarship is available to a student demonstrating leadership ability and is based on financial need and academic achievement.

Rosalie Stevenson Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a full-time student enrolled in a Nursing curriculum. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

Scurry Foundation Scholarship

The Scurry Foundation contributes funds through the Piedmont Technical College Foundation to provide scholarships in varying amounts to worthy students. The recipients are selected on the basis of academic potential, financial need and availability of funds.

South Carolina Green Industry Association Scholarship Fund

SC Green scholarships are funded by member donations as well as proceeds from their annual conference and trade show. This scholarship is available to a full-time student enrolled in Horticulture at PTC. The applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and show work in a related field or extra-curricular activities in the field. 

Stephen Franklin Sherard III Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is available to Building Construction Technology majors based on academic achievement (3.0 GPA), full-time preference, and may be renewable based on academic achievement. The family of Stephen Franklin Sherard III established this scholarship in his memory. Steve was the owner, operator, and hardest worker of Sherard Builders and was a long-time member of The Lakeland's Homebuilders Association. He had a passion for building construction.

Sterilite Corporation Endowed Scholarship

Sterilite Corporation established a scholarship to assist Greenwood and Laurens County residents that attend Piedmont Technical College. Preference is given to Sterilite employees and members of their immediate family. This scholarship is available to students showing academic achievement and financial need.

Strom Thurmond Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships named for Senator Strom Thurmond are available to students displaying leadership ability, financial need and a 3.5 GPA.

Sylvia MacFarlane Veterinary Technology Club Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a third semester student in the Veterinary Technology program.  The student must demonstrate professionalism, be active in the SCNAVTA and have a 3.0 grade point average. 

Taylor Foundation of Newberry Endowed Scholarships

These scholarships will be available to Newberry County residents. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

The 40 and 8 Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a Nursing major from Greenwood County.  Greenwood Voiture Locale 435, a support group of the American Legion that was established in 1920 by World War I veterans, annually funds a nursing scholarship.

The 40 and 8 Nursing Scholarship - Edgefield

This scholarship is available to a student in a Nursing major from Edgefield County.  Criteria also include academic achievement, leadership and financial need.

The Charlie Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a Saluda County resident. Selection is based on academic achievement.

The Links at Stoney Point PTC Golf Classic Scholarship

These scholarships are generated through a fundraising golf tournament held each spring. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

The Links of Stoney Point Military Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor Keith Bishop, Kyle Davis, Tommy Pendley, and Patrick Wilson, staff at The Links of Stoney Point. This scholarship is available to an active or retired military veteran who shows academic achievement and financial need.

Veterinary Technician of Excellence Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a 2nd year student in the Veterinary Tech program; demonstrate academic excellence, professionalism, active participant in community and professional activities as a member of the veterinary tech club.  Can be awarded to a 2nd semester first year student if no 2nd year applied.

W. A. Klauber Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a Radiologic Technology student who has completed at least one semester in clinical. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

West Fraser PTC Golf Classic Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student that lives in Laurens, Greenwood or Newberry County showing financial need.  This student must be enrolled in one of the following programs:  Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechatronics Technology.
