The Accession Clerk is responsible for receiving and triaging biological laboratory samples shipped by multiple courier services to the diagnostic laboratory.
Duties include sorting specimens by category and RUSH status with barcoding and recording of sample information upon receipt, noting any deviations from regulatory guidelines and established administrative policies of the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC).
Data entry within both Epic EHR and the laboratory LIMS.
Education Requirements:
Minimum High School Diploma
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related medical field is preferred.
Epic experience required/preferred
The Accession Clerk is responsible for receiving and triaging biological laboratory samples shipped by multiple courier services to the diagnostic laboratory. These samples are processed and triaged prior to testing using regulatory guidelines established by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Duties include sorting specimens by category and RUSH status with barcoding and recording of sample information upon receipt, noting any deviations from regulatory guidelines and established administrative policies of the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC).
The Accession Clerk handles samples that may include whole blood, serum, plasma, urine, saliva, skin biopsy, DNA, fibroblasts, lymphoblastoid cell lines, dried blood spots, and tissue. All tasks are performed using universal precautions following all regulatory safety requirements.
Maintaining a chain of custody for samples is also required to ensure specimen integrity.
All candidates are trained in patient confidentiality according to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and personnel and patient safety requirements of the above stated regulatory agencies.
Data entry within both Epic EHR and the laboratory LIMS is also a duty of the administrative assistant, capturing required Protected Health Information (PHI) and test information following workflows established within the CAP protocols and Epic guidelines.
