QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education: 

Bachelor of Science in Accounting and/or Finance (preferred not required).  

 

Associates Degree of Science in Business with a Concentration in Accounting or Associates Degree of Science in Business with an additional Accounting Certificate and enrollment into a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required. *Candidates whom are working towards their bachelors degree may be eligible for 75% of their tuition to be covered by Newberry Electric Cooperative, Inc.

 

Job Knowledge: Must have a good knowledge of utility accounting principles. Must have a good working knowledge of system's layout. Exposure to RUS Uniform System of Accounts and RUS audit procedures is desirable. A working knowledge of spreadsheet uses and functions is desirable. Must have a good working knowledge of data processing procedures and applications.  A working knowledge of all state and federal tax forms pertaining to cooperative is preferred.  A basic knowledge of RUS Work Order Procedure is preferred.

 

Skills and Abilities:

 

 Should be skilled in the areas of organizing, planning and directing in the operation and supervision of the General Accounting function of the Cooperative.  Should possess an in-depth working knowledge of utility regulations as directed by state and federal agencies.  Must be capable of understanding company policies, practices and procedures which particularly influence accounting functions.  Must be able to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, information on financial accounting to proper agencies or personnel.  Must be able to maintain a high degree of accuracy.  Must have ability to use office equipment such as calculator, typewriter, computer terminal and personal computers.  Must follow the highest standards of professional conduct in all business contacts.

 

Working Conditions: Generally accepted office conditions.

Job Description:

OBJECTIVES

To further the goals and objectives of the Cooperative by providing professional and courteous service to its employees, consumers, and the general public.

To formulate and administer general accounting practices for the Cooperative to assure that the accounting and other financial and operating reports accurately reflect the condition of the business.

To provide top management with complete and accurate financial records and reports in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures of the RUS System of Accounts that will contribute to efficient management of the Cooperative.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES

Serves as a liaison between the Cooperative and its employees, members/consumers, and the general public.

 

Performs personally the following activities:

Directs the development of company accounting policy and administers approved accounting procedures.

Supervises the maintenance of the company's general ledger.  Prepares department and consolidated operating and financial statements on a periodic basis.

Develops accounting procedures for work orders, capital credits, payroll, accounts payable and establishes schedules for timely completion.

 

Knowledge of GAAP accounting procedures, depreciation and capital expenditure. 

 

Audits general ledger computer printouts. Compiles reports to management on revenue, loan analysis, and general fund analysis.

Reviews all State, Local and Federal tax forms for completeness and accuracy.

All other job duties as assigned.

Coordinates completion of audit adjustments (inventory) from Auditors.

Produces operating statement and assembles packet for monthly Board meeting.

 

RELATIONSHIPS

Auditors: To furnish information, advice and assistance in the interpretation and reconciling of work orders, payroll, accounts payable, capital credits, tax information and insurance (property, workman's compensation, etc.)

Coordinate audits of subsidiary operations.

Member Systems: To attend various workshops and conferences.

Banks: To contact for efficient cash management.

Tax Entities: To provide accurate reports related to all cooperative regulations

and requirements.                                                                                                                                                

NRECA: To seek advice and assistance of Bank for Cooperatives, CFC, FFB: To provide reporting documents as required.

Reports to the CFO.
