Requirements:

You must possess six (6) months of general experience and six (6) months of specialized experience for a total on one (1) year of experience at the GS-03 level. General experience is any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position. Specialized experience is work involving one or more aspects of vegetation management such as: performing basic vegetation inventories, studies and surveys; participating in site rehabilitation through soil preparation, native seed dispersal, live planting and weeding; applying/performing a variety of manual, mechanical, chemical, and/or bio-control methods in planned management of exotics (non-natives), native species, and/or weeds, etc. OR; Successful completion of two (2) years of education above high school which included at least 12 semester hours (30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours) of scientific or technical courses (such as biology, ecology, mathematics, or directly related courses); and at least 6 semester hours in plant or botany related subjects. OR; A combination of specialized experience and education.

Job Description:

The purpose of this position is to implement established natural resource management projects. Following instructions and standardized procedures, collects and organizes field data. Ensures adequate quality control of data collected. Makes field observations of natural resource conditions. Evaluates observed conditions and problems, and makes preliminary determinations on the cause of problems noted. Provides results to higher-level specialists for analysis. Locates, treats, and monitors exotic plant infestations. Utilize GPS to map plant species of conservation concern and create field maps from collected data and existing layers. Assist with other monitoring programs, such as fire effects, breeding bird, or aquatic surveys, as needed. Enter field data into databases and develop completion reports. Operates computers, GPS units, UTV's, chain saws, hand tools, power tools and 4X4 vehicles to support assigned duties.
