Wages/Salary: $ 26,000 – $ 32,000 annually
Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma is required. Must be certified through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Basic Telecommunication class and successfully completed National Crime Information Center Training (NCIC). Must have a minimum typing speed of 30 mph. Must have strong skills in providing excellent customer service and demonstrate strong ethics. Must live in close proximity and able to work flexible hours.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have great communication and computer skills. Ability to correctly evaluate situations and make good decisions. Ability to deal firmly, yet tactfully, and relate well with the general public. Possess a high degree of independence in completing the work with accountability for their own actions and decisions in the absence of a supervisor. Must be able to complete all necessary training requirements through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions during stressful and emergency situations. Work involves operating a multichannel radio console and multi-line telephone system. Ability to solicit accurate information in an emergency situation.
The dispatcher receives all incoming calls to Lander University Police Department, obtaining essential data, evaluating the situation, and initiating an appropriate response. Operates communications equipment to include radios, teletype, and computers. Provides information and/or assistance to officers, law enforcement agencies, maintenance personnel and the general public.
(Position Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week.)
