Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in engineering and five (5) years of journey-level engineering work
experience; or a bachelor's degree in engineering technology and seven (7) years of journeylevel
engineering work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with
State Human Resources Regulations.
Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of South Carolina as prescribed in
State Code Sections 40-22-20 and 40-22-30.
A valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Job Description:

Conducts traffic investigations relative to the need for traffic signal installations, traffic signal
revisions, traffic signing changes, pavement marking revisions, and highway access approval.
Provides appropriate traffic data collection as needed for each request, including turning
movement counts, ADT tube counts, collisions researches, collision diagrams, existing
conditions sketches, speed studies, traffic delay studies, and written reports of observations of
traffic operations. Receives request related to the need for the traffic control devices or
revisions to traffic control devices. Maintains and tracks request in HMMS. Using appropriate
traffic engineering policies and standards, makes decisions relative to traffic control needs and
provides follow-up responses to SCDOT personnel, general public, and elected officials via
telephone calls, e-mail or letter responses. Designs and produces traffic signals installation
plans, traffic signal revision plans, signing plans, geometric improvement plans, and other
traffic engineering related plans. Tracks work by SCDOT personnel, ensuring completion and
correctness of work completed. Reviews site plans for schools and large development relative
to appropriate access and needed geometric improvements on adjacent highways. Assists
Traffic Engineer with reporting and tracking requirements.
