Requirements:

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one to two years of progressively responsible technical experience in electrical line work; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have valid South Carolina Class A commercial driver’s license. Must have satisfactorily completed weeks one, two, three, and six of Line Worker Training School classes and possess a Class “C” certification.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of tools and equipment. Must be physically able to exert up to fifty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Position involves walking, reading, bending, crouching, reclining, stooping, and balancing and is in excess of sedentary work. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to one hundred and fifty pounds.

Job Description:

Under regular supervision, performs semi-skilled work in construction, maintenance, repair, and connection duties to the City’s electrical system. Work involves operating various heavy equipment, building and maintaining primary and secondary systems, and performing any requested services as needed. Reports to the Electric Superintendent.
Performs construction of materials.
Maintains materials on trucks.
Maintains safety conditions.
Cleans equipment and tools.
Assists in building and maintaining all primary and secondary circuits within the City of Newberry to include converting voltages, performing hot-line work, setting poles, re-insulating poles, changing out rotten poles, locating broken or burnt lines with fault locator, moving energized lines for framing, installing transformers, building new taps for consumers, framing all hardware, and assembling and installing cut-outs and arrestor.
Conducts servicing for consumers such as installing new wore services, troubleshooting, installing yard lights and street lights, restoring power, etc.
Prepares, reviews, organizes, and distributes various documents and records including work orders, meter test reports, staking sheets, vehicle service charts, electrical drawings, substation reading, purchase orders, and general office correspondence.
Remains subject to stand-by duty and twenty-four hour call-out.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as work orders, material sheets, staking sheets, and system maps.
Prepares and/or processes various records and reports such as work orders, material sheets, staking sheets, and systems maps.
Refers to work orders, materials sheets, staking sheets, and system maps, policy and procedure mauals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.
Operates a variety of equipment and vehicles such as connector wrench, hydraulic drill, gas operated drill, chain saws, trencher, bucket trucks, digger, bush hog, rope machine, tensions machine, etc.
Uses a variety of tools such as hot sticks, phasing sticks, rubber gloves, rubber sleeves, rubber hoses, etc.; and a variety of supplies such as fiberglass cross arms, suspension insulators, double insulators, transformers, combination cut outs, electric meters, general office supplies, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Electric Superintendent, other department personnel, other lineman, and the general public.
Performs grass cutting as needed.
Performs tree removing as required.
Performs cement operations as needed.
Assists other departments as required.
Assists with various functions to include cutting grass around utility shop; assists in the maintenance of breakers and switches, repairing or replacing of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and roads as needed.
Reads meters as needed.
Performs related duties as required.
