Requirements:

A 10th grade education and three and one-half (3.5) years of related trades experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License. (NOTE): This position requires a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of placement in the position. However, applicants without a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License are available.

Job Description:

Serves as crew leader performing various duties within a section of county including patching roadway surfaces, construction and repair of bridges and construction driveways. Operates tandem ten-wheel dump truck, 5 yard standard dump truck, and flatbed truck for hauling materials including asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement, pipe, construction materials and debris. Assumes supervisor's duties and responsibilities during their absence. Sets up traffic control according to SCMUTCD Standards to warn motorist of road work ahead. Operates standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Performs other related job duties as requested or assigned by
supervisor. Operates self-propelled steel wheel and pneumatic rollers, to compact and solidify fill material. Conducts and documents pre-operation vehicle/equipment inspection as needed. Removes litter, debris and dead animals from roadway and rights-of-way. This position requires employee to lift heavy objects. Assists with instructing crew members daily in safety practices. Safety practices includes flagging operations, wearing of safety equipment, vehicle safety, or when working with hazardous material and waste.
