Qualifications and Aptitudes:
Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides
the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Youth Ministry Experience
Demonstrates spiritual maturity and engages in biblical reflection.
Must have vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate and implement a youth
ministry within the parameters of the United Methodist Church.
Demonstrates leadership skills which include active listening, conflict resolution, creating an
atmosphere of trust and connectivity, an ability to work well with others, ability to delegate responsibly
and follow-up to complete tasks, an ability to assess successes and failures, and an ability to identify
opportunities for growth.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer and social media skills.
Must be self-motivated and possess a proven ability to work effectively with youth, diverse individuals,
and volunteers.
The Youth Minister will promote and facilitate a holistic ministry for young people ages 6th-12th grades to make
disciples of Jesus Christ. These categories are further divided into ages 12-18 and 18-25. This person shall
advocate and provide support for the youth and young adult ministry to engage participation and to assist
youth to grow in faith.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The primary task is to:
Love youth and relate to where they are
Encourage and nurture youth while providing opportunities to develop their relationship with
God.
Challenge youth to respond to God’s call and to serve in their communities and the world.
Organize, plan, supervise and evaluate a comprehensive youth ministry to include:
Approve and engage youth with curriculum choices and teach 11-18 Sunday School with the aid
of other adults. Coordinate Sunday for 18-25 age group.
Plan UMYF (Elevate) program for Sunday and Wednesday evenings
Work with Senior Pastor to develop and conduct Confirmation Classes
Plan and supervise service projects and retreats
Plan and supervise mission trips
Build and maintain a strong relational connection with youth, including attending school
performances, extracurricular and performance events in which our youth participate
Maintain regularly scheduled meetings with the Youth Council
Work cooperatively with other ministries of the church
Promote youth activities through various methods of communication
Maintain accurate youth ministry data base
Maintain clear and consistent communication with youth and parents of youth
Compile and present annual budget; fundraising to supplement budget if needed
