Piedmont Tech to Dedicate New Expanded County Center in McCormick
Piedmont Technical College will be opening its new facility with a dedication ceremony Tuesday, May 10. The public is invited to attend beginning at 5:15 p.m.
Piedmont Technical College assumed ownership of the old McCormick High School technology center thanks to a generous gift from the McCormick County School District in June of 2010.
“It’s a very nice facility,” said former superintendent Dr. Sandra Calliham when the decision was made to donate the existing facility once the new McCormick High School was complete. “And I knew Piedmont Tech had outgrown their current location in McCormick.”
The 7,000 sq. ft. technology center will begin offering classes for the summer semester. The former center, which is only about 2200 sq. ft., was the smallest facility in Piedmont Tech’s seven-county area.
“Because of the existing center’s size, we’ve had to limit our offerings in McCormick,” said Jennifer Wilbanks, dean of Piedmont Tech’s county centers. “With the additional space at this new facility, we’ll be able to expand the variety of programming we can offer.”
Ultimately, that means more opportunity for McCormick’s citizens, and more potential for economic growth.
Wilbanks says that the new center will offer an OnDeck program as well as the new Middle College program for McCormick High School students and a wider variety of options for Piedmont Tech students.
Refreshments and tours of the facility will be provided following a ribbon cutting ceremony.
