Piedmont Tech Mourns Loss of Beloved Educator
Members of the Piedmont Tech family were saddened to learn of the July 9 passing of Allen Barbare, who taught in the Human Services program at PTC for more than 12 years.
Born in Greer, Allen was a son of the late Marion and Myrtice Weisner Barbare. He received his bachelor’s in psychology from Wofford College and his master’s in social work from the University of South Carolina. He taught at Piedmont Tech from 2004 to 2016.
Allen was the Crisis Shelter Programs Director at Connie Maxwell Children’s Home and also previously worked for the Department of Social Services in Laurens and Anderson counties. He was a member of Connie Maxwell Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and was a member of the praise band.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Pryor Barbare, and two sisters, Patti Walker (Geoff) of Columbia and Nancy Castle (Delmas) of Owenton, KY.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at Connie Maxwell Baptist Church, 215 Terrell Smith Avenue, Greenwood, SC, with the Rev. Miller Murphy officiating. A private burial will be held prior to the service.
