Piedmont Tech to Sponsor Job and Transfer Fair in Newberry
Piedmont Technical College will sponsor a Job and Transfer Fair Thursday, June 5 at the Newberry County Campus. Eight colleges will be in attendance to give students information about attending PTC and furthering their education at a four-year college or university. In addition, 12 area businesses will be there to answer questions for anyone in the community who may be looking for a job or looking to change jobs. The event will be from 4-6 p.m.
The idea for a Job Fair came out of comments and discussions from the Workforce Opportunity Summit that was hosted by Piedmont Tech in March.
“From discussions and a survey that was sent out to area business and industry, the members agreed that Newberry needs a strong, educated and trained pool of workers who are able to apply for today’s types of technical jobs,” said Lisa Toland, dean of off-campus instruction. “There are jobs available and there are people looking for jobs and we wanted to provide a bridge between the two.”
The College Transfer was added for students as a means to get them acquainted with area colleges to help them prepare to further their education.
“Although we want our students to further their education, we also want the community to see that students can start at PTC and later transfer to a four-year university through many articulation agreements that we have with several of the colleges that will be present,” said Toland.
Piedmont Technical College representatives and program advisors will be on hand to answer questions, and experts will also be available for guidance on important areas of concern such as financial aid and scholarships.
