Piedmont Technical College to Hold Commencement December 15
Piedmont Technical College will be holding fall commencement exercises on Tuesday, December 15.
Commencement exercises will begin at 5 p.m. in the James Medford Family Event Center at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood. Due to limited seating, tickets will be required for all guests attending the graduation ceremony. Each ticketholder, including children, will be entitled to one seat.
In recognition of their excellence and the stories they have told about their journeys in higher education, two graduating students will be speaking at the commencement ceremony.
Hannah Byerly always wanted to go into the agriculture field, but she was nervous about going to college after being homeschooled for most of her life. The Greenwood native found the solution to her problem at Piedmont Technical College. She will be receiving two degrees - an Associate in Applied Science Degree with a major in Horticulture and an Associate in Applied Science Degree with a major in Diversified Agriculture. She plans to enroll at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga., where she will pursue her bachelor’s degree in diversified agriculture with an emphasis on livestock production. She hopes to become an agriculture teacher at the middle school level.
Cheryl Mackey came to Greenwood from Albany, NY to help her ailing mother and found a new home. She discovered that a lack of a college education limited her career choices, so she enrolled at Piedmont Technical College. She will be receiving her Associate in Applied Science Degree with a major in Computer Technology with an Information Technology concentration. She plans to enter the workforce in information technology while pursuing her bachelor’s degree. Cheryl has two daughters and three grandchildren.
A special feature of commencement exercises will be recognition of top graduates from Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens, Newberry and Saluda Counties.
