Scholarships Presented at Luncheon
Scholarships were awarded recently at a luncheon honoring donors and recipients.
Two Piedmont Technical College veterinary technology students were recently awarded the Veterinary Technician of Excellence Scholarship at the college’s annual scholarship luncheon. The scholarship is presented to second year veterinary technology students who demonstrate academic excellence, professionalism and participation in community activities.
Six Piedmont Technical College students were awarded the Capsugel Scholarship at a recent scholarship luncheon. Pictured, from left, are Kristina Hill, an associate degree nursing student from Honea Path; and Debbie Walling, Capsugel representative. Not pictured are Claudine Feussi, a computer technology student from Greenwood; Georgine Gersdorff, an associate in arts student from Chapin; Angela Huggins, an occupational therapy assistant student from Pauline; Rondriekus Smith, an associate in arts student from Greenwood; and Amber West, an occupational therapy assistant student from Columbia. Awarded annually, the scholarship is based on academic achievement and financial need.
Three Piedmont Technical College students were recently awarded the Sterilite Corporation Scholarship at the college’s annual scholarship luncheon. Pictured are, from left, Keenan Tallent, scholarship committee member; Crystal Tinch, a respiratory care student from Greenwood; Terrell Gist, a criminal justice student from Spartanburg; and Anna Tullis, a mechatronics technology student from Hodges. This scholarship is available to Sterilite employees and members of their immediate family from Laurens and Greenwood who show academic achievement and financial need.
Two Piedmont Technical College students recently received the Nora Wells Cooner Scholarship at the college’s annual scholarship luncheon. Pictured are, from left, Casi Wilson, medical assisting student from Abbeville; Jo Bartley, scholarship donor and daughter of the late Nora Wells Cooner; and April Payton, a surgical technology student from Greenwood. The scholarship is awarded annually to full-time students with a minimum 2.5 grade point average and is based on financial need.
Four Piedmont Technical College students were recently awarded the LPGA Symetra Health Classic Scholarship at the college’s annual scholarship luncheon. Pictured are, from left, Rebecca Weaver, an associate degree nursing student from Abbeville; Fran Wiley, assistant vice president for development with the Piedmont Technical College Foundation; and Shannon Rivers, a radiologic technology student from Batesburg. Not pictured are Annie Miran Chanona, an associate degree nursing student from Greenwood; and Roxie Rushton, a radiologic technology student from Ninety Six. A portion of the proceeds from the annual LPGA Self Regional Healthcare Classic at The Links at Stoney Point are donated to the Piedmont Technical College Foundation for scholarships. Awards are available to a students enrolled in the Allied Health or Nursing programs.

The scholarship is awarded each year to Laurens County students majoring in business or computer technology, based on academic achievement and financial need.
Piedmont Technical College student and Columbia resident Travis Roberts, right, received the John Heydel Cardiovascular Scholarship at the college’s annual scholarship luncheon. Roberts, a cardiovascular technology student, is congratulated by John Heydel. The scholarship is awarded annually to a cardiovascular technology student and is based on academic achievement.
Two Piedmont Technical College students were recently awarded the Dr. Sandra Calliham McMullen Scholarship. Pictured are, from left, Joe McMullen, donor, and Heather Padgett, an early care and education student from Saluda. Not pictured is Brittany Bryant, an associate in science student from McCormick. This scholarship is available to any senior graduating from McCormick High School that is pursuing a degree in (1) education or (2) health care field that shows a financial need, academic achievement and motivation to learn.
Piedmont Technical College building construction technology (BCT) student and Prosperity resident Michael Hunter, left, was recently awarded the C.Y. Thomason, Sr. Memorial Scholarship at the college’s annual scholarship luncheon. Hunter is congratulated by Bobby Roche, BCT program director. Named for C.Y. Thomason, who was a contractor for 50 years, the scholarship is awarded annually to a student in the Building Construction Technology program.
Piedmont Technical College student and Hodges resident David Turman, left, was recently awarded the Computer Consultants & Merchants, Inc. PTC Golf Classic Scholarship at the college’s annual scholarship luncheon. Turman, a welding major, is congratulated by Don Clark from CC&M, Inc. The scholarship is funded through an annual golf tournament held each spring and selection is based on academic achievement and financial need.

Awarded annually, the scholarship is based on academic standing, volunteerism and faculty and advisor recommendations.
Piedmont Technical College associate degree nursing student and Greenwood resident Lisa Riggins, left, was recently awarded the Forty and 8 Scholarship at the college’s annual scholarship luncheon. Presenting the scholarship was Daniel Grubbs, right. The unit, a support group of the American Legion that was established in 1920 by World War I veterans, annually funds a nursing scholarship.
Piedmont Technical College occupational therapy assistant student and Lexington resident Alison Baltzigar recently received the Agape Senior Occupational Therapy Assistant Scholarship. Agape Senior has established a scholarship to assist a student majoring in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Criteria includes academic achievement and financial need. Preference is given to Agape Senior employees.
Piedmont Technical College associate degree nursing student and Newberry resident Michelle Burns was recently awarded the Lucille Brown Memorial Scholarship. The family and friends of Lucille Brown established this scholarship in her memory after her untimely death in 2014. Ms. Brown was a biology and science teacher. Her teaching career of 39 years included Piedmont Technical College. The scholarship is available to a Nursing student demonstrating academic achievement.
