CNC programming and machining are two of the skill sets in the highest demand in the quickly expanding advanced manufacturing sector in South Carolina. In fact, employers need more machinists than they can find. Some expanding companies are even recruiting nationally for local positions.

In this month's Facts & Finds: although the cost of a college education has been increasing, data shows that pursuing an education still pays off in earnings after graduation. For those headed toward a four year degree, research shows that almost half of the students across the U.S. who recently received a four-year degree had earned credit from a two-year college along the way.

The manufacturing sector has been making a big comeback in Upstate South Carolina, and one of the skillsets in the highest demand is machining and CNC programming. At the moment, there are more jobs out there than there are qualified people to fill them. In fact, the demand for machinists is at an all-time high: some companies are even recruiting nationally for local positions.
